Avid Pro Tools 201 Practice Exam

Comping is about building a single polished performance by using multiple takes on one track and selecting the best parts from each take. In Pro Tools you record multiple takes on a single track, which creates alternate takes stored as playlists on that track. The comping tools let you audition and choose exact sections from each take, so you can assemble a continuous performance that sounds like one perfect pass. At the boundaries, you can apply crossfades to smooth any transitions and avoid pops or abrupt jumps. Once you’re happy with the assembled performance, you consolidate or merge the chosen regions into a single clip on that track, effectively finalizing one track that you can mix as usual. This workflow is efficient, non-destructive, and keeps all your takes organized in one place.
